What is the easiest way to catch a Caribbean lobster?
Can you answer Leftwing's question about Caribbean Vacations?:
I want to know the easiest way to catch a Caribbean lobster? I will be in the Bahamas so it is legal to spear it. Is that the easiest? Or should I net it? Grab it with my hands? Or is there a special tool?

I've caught and eaten my fair share of Spiny lobster in the Bahamas. Spear guns are illegal in the Bahamas, but I've found the Hawaiian sling to be the most effective tool. It's also illegal to take anything out of the water while breathing compressed air, so that means no dive tanks, no third lungs, etc… you're free diving if you're catching lobster in the Bahamas.
It's good to have someone snorkeling with you who can carry a mesh bag to put them in as you spear them. But make sure they have a spear in hand, too for protection (barracuda and sharks may be drawn to the area after a while). Be careful not to venture too far from your anchored boat or tender, either.
Be sure not to take 'em too small. Not just for legality sake, but this is how the population is preserved and why there are still spiny lobster to be had in the Bahamas.
Have a great time, and if you're ever looking for an awesome Bahamas Yacht Charter experience drop me a line.
Hey Leftwing, I got inspired after posting the comment below, and wrote a more thorough article on the subject on my blog. Check it out at: http://www.allcharteryachts.com/blog/islands-of-the-bahamas/whats-the-easiest-way-to-catch-bahamian-lobster/
While fishing down in Antigua years ago, two of the native deckhands spotted a trail of Caribbean lobsters about 40ft below us. These 2 guys used their snorkel gear and dived down with fish baskets and collected our gourmet dinner for that evening. They just grabbed the lobster right behind the head and put them in the baskets. These lobsters travel in single line formation. That makes them easy to spot from the boat.
During the short season in Florida we would take the boat out at night, with a big bright light on the boat we would look down into the shallows, when we spotted the lobster moving around(they are active at night) we then just scooped them up in the net.
try a lobster trap thier easy to make just get instructions online
