A day In Havana
If you are going on holidays to Cuba you need to visit its Capital Havana and what better way to know this vibrant city other than walking along its most interesting and popular streets and alleys and hanging out in the most popular squares. In this article I am going to introduce you to the best of Havana?s promenades.
El Malecon: This has to be the number one in our list of best public walks. Protecting the city from the Atlantic Ocean this see front avenue stretches for 7 kilometers from The Old Town top the most modern part of Havana known as Vedado. The breezes coming from the see allows you to enjoy a display of architecture and nature even in the hottest time of the year.
Paseo del Prado: El Prado Promenade was build at the end of the 19th Century alongside the west end of the wall that protected Havana?s Old Town for almost 200 years. Soon after the wall was brought down El Prado became the fanciest place to live. Today you can admire the magnificent architecture of its best?s residences.
Avenida de Los Presidentes: Also known as "Calle G" since the nomenclature given to the streets in Vedado district. Along this avenue one can admire the most opulent residence of Havana. Most of these properties are now government institutions since they were left vacant by their owner in the first few years after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959.
Calle San Rafael: It is a one kilometer long pedestrian boulevard along which many businesses, shops, bars and night clubs can be found. It is located in the vicinity of the Old Town.
Calle Galiano: This street is located in the municipality of Centro Habana right at the end of San Rafael Street. It is full of shops, theatres and night clubs. Perhaps the most famous night club in Havana ?Casa de La Musica? is located in Galiano Street.
Havana is the largest city in the Caribbean and it is considered by many one of the most captivating places in the world. By walking its streets you get to know its people, its history and one of the richest architectural patrimonies of the world.
